BREAKING
Kurt Wagner of Recode reported that the Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) NFL live streaming debut received 2.1 million viewers.
STORY
Twitter Inc. streamed its first NFL game yesterday while CBS and the NFL network broadcast the game on live TV and as a stream. The value proposition for Twitter Inc. users was several fold, but the top two were the conversation surrounding the stream and the fact that it was free -- no subscription or log in needed, thank you very much.
Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) is famously known for being the first tech firm to stream an NFL game and while the company reported all kinds of bizarrely large numbers for the broadcast, most tech people reached a number of about 2.3 million viewers.
As for Twitter Inc., the estimates were few and far between, although some of numbers came in near 1.5 million as a first game estimate. The 2.1 million is a win, but more importantly, it's now a benchmark.
Every game Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) broadcasts moving forward will be measured against this number -- this game -- this time. According to Recode, Nielson reported that a staggering 48.1 million watched the game on television, so the bar is high and the benchmark is set.
In a prior note from Capital Market Laboratories, we noted that the real takeaway from the game was an astonishing back-and-forth between Twitter Inc/ COO Adam Bain and a now famous pair of Millennials.
